Artist Bio
Abstract Alexandra aka Alexandra White, Abstract Expressionist, Contemporary. Figurative and Postmodernist artist, Abstract Alexandra, creates art with the vision of a figurative expressionist. Originally, from Manchester, Connecticut, she grew up surrounded by art. Her mother was an accomplished musician and oil painter, and father a talented craftsman. With a passion to paint and create art, she attended the Atlanta Institute of Art and Design and Gibbs University, Boston. While pursuing her art degree she traveled throughout the United States and Europe exhibiting her paintings.
By the late 90’s she moved to Columbia, South Carolina and studied under popular acrylic painter Campbell Frost. She collaborated with artist Beth Ernest on several abstract multi-media exhibitions and held joint shows with artist Blue Sky and many others.
Many of her early works encompassed nature, color field painting and chiaroscuro. In later years, her style of vivid surrealism mixed with the naivety of expressionism has blended into what is now a new style of abstract expression. Always driven artistically, her paintings; as well as organic collages and assemblage pieces, are created as an expression of experiences. When attending exhibits she, by way of storytelling, encourages audiences, to participate in a journey through touch. Which she hopes will captivate lovers of art with a desire to transcend beyond typical artistic styles of the 20th century and gain strength in the 21st century.
After being featured in multiple publications regarding her expressionist paintings she collaborated with female artists from South Carolina to create the She Festival, in 2001. The festival was created to celebrate talented women, and traveled to SC, NC & GA. By providing a venue, for women in art, to perform and exhibit their unique artistic talents in an effort to raise awareness about domestic violence.
At present Alexandra is the coordinator of the SCA/APPLS art group in Lexington, an Art Therapist and still finds time to create her expressive works of art.
Current assemblages and paintings are exhibited permanently in restaurants and galleries throughout North and South Carolina, New York, Washington D.C., France, Great Britain and Germany.
